North East 250
The North East 250 is Scotland’s newest tourist route with 250 miles and is classed as the ‘Ultimate road trip to the heart of Scotland’ you can take this journey with the help of Lowland Motorhome Hire
It takes you through Speyside, Royal Deeside, the Cairngorms, along the Moray Firth Coast, East Coast and Aberdeen. The North East 250 is a circular route and includes spectacular places to visit along the way.
There are Castles, beaches, golf courses, mountains, forests, sea life centres and distilleries. It has everything the NC500 encompasses and so much more. One of the advantages are the roads are wider and more inviting to motorhomes.
There are very few single-track roads and passing places along the route and most of the villages and towns along the route are bigger than those on the NC500 and therefore offer more amenities.
This route is a welcome break from the busier, overcrowded route that is now the NC500. It is not meant to be seen as a replacement for the NC500, it is just a different but wholly great route that allows people to see the beauty that Scotland holds.
There are 3 clear points from which to join the route:
Ballindalloch, Aberdeen Airport and through Glenshee.
The background to the North East 250 is on their official website and is well worth a look. The spectacular photos show what the route entails and captures all the fantastic places to stop and visit. Visit www.northeast250.com – photos in this article are from official website.
Whisky Distilleries – The North East of Scotland is home to some of the worlds most famous whisky distilleries. Glen Livet, Glen Grant, The Macallan, Ballindalloch, Aberlour and so much more. Many of these distilleries have tours.
Outdoor and adventure – Surfing, sailing, kayaking, climbing, hill walking, snow sports, cycling, quad biking, off road driving and zip lining are some of the outdoor adventures in and around the area.
And let’s not forget the golf courses, there are lots of golf courses all around. Scotland is the home of the golf and the North East 250 is no exception.
I have had a look at the campsites along the route and there are a lot! This list is not exhaustive. I cannot personally recommend all of them as I have not visited them all myself. I can personally recommend a couple of them though, I will annotate them below. Why not give them a go and find out for yourself.
